The Indefinite curfew imposed in Gopalgarh town in Bharatpur district on September 14 following a communal violence was today lifted completely. "The curfew which was presently confined between 2100 hrs and 0600 hrs is lifted in the view of normalcy in the dusty town in the Kaman region of the district," an official spokesman said here, adding, however, prohibitory orders under section 144 would continue to be in force as a precautionary measure.
Ten people were killed and 19 sustained injuries in violence and firing that broke on September 14 following tiff over conversion of a pond land into a graveyard, that had forced the authorities to impose indefinite curfew to control the situation. The violence and its handling by the police and district administration has evoked strong criticism all over. The state government has constituted a one-member Inquiry Commission headed by Justice S K Garg to probe the circumstances of incidents and also referred investigation to the CBI.
